How to Make Friends in Gurgaon (Gurugram): 10 Ways That Actually Work

Moved here for work and still eating lunch alone at your desk? You're not the only one. Here's what actually works.

Gurgaon is full of people who moved here for a job. Most of them know their team, their flatmates and nobody else. Weekdays go by in a cab and an office tower, and weekends feel strangely quiet.

The good news: because so many people here are new, far more of them are open to meeting someone than you’d think. You just need to be in the right places, more than once.

The short answer

The fastest way to make friends in Gurgaon is to do one activity you enjoy, at the same place and time, every week, with a small group. A Sunday run at Leisure Valley, a weekly box cricket game or a regular café table beats ten one-off parties. Friendships come from seeing the same faces again.

1. Join a morning run or walk

Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29 and the Aravalli Biodiversity Park are busy every morning with runners and walkers, and many of them come at the same time every day. Go at the same hour for two weeks and you’ll start nodding at the regulars. By the third week, someone will say hello.

If running alone feels awkward, look for a group run. Small groups that run at an easy pace and stop for chai afterwards are the easiest to join.

2. Play a team sport

Box cricket turfs, badminton courts and football grounds are spread across the city, and almost every regular game is short of a player or two. Teams need people, which makes sports the easiest way in: nobody asks why you’re there.

Ask at a turf whether they have a regular group, or join a game where someone says “need 2 more players”.

3. Become a regular somewhere

Pick one café near home, maybe in Galleria Market or around Cyber Hub, and go at the same time each week. Staff will start to recognise you, and so will the other regulars. It sounds small, but being a familiar face is how most city friendships start.

4. Go to shows and events

Epicentre in Sector 44 hosts plays, comedy and music, and Gurgaon has plenty of open mics in cafés and bars. Going alone is normal at these. Talk to whoever is next to you during the interval; you already have something to talk about.

5. Meet people who are building things

Gurgaon has a huge startup and coworking crowd, and coworking spaces often run founder evenings, talks and networking nights. Even if you’re not building a company, these rooms are full of people who moved here for work and want to meet others.

6. Volunteer on weekends

Tree plantation drives in the Aravallis, animal shelters and teaching programmes all need regular volunteers. You work side by side with the same people every week, which is exactly how friendships form.

7. Plan small day trips

Sultanpur National Park is an easy morning trip for birdwatching, especially in winter when migratory birds arrive. Damdama Lake near Sohna is good for a day out. A trip with three or four people you half-know is the quickest way to turn them into friends.

8. Take a class

Dance, pottery, a language, music, a sport you’ve never tried. Classes give you the two things friendships need: the same people, again and again, and something to do together so conversation comes easily.

9. Use apps made for groups, not dating

Most “friend” features in dating apps still match you one-on-one with a stranger, which is awkward for everyone. Look for plans with a purpose and a small group instead.

That’s what we’re building with SceneHai: people nearby post small plans like “Sunday cricket, need 4 players” or “chai and conversations for people new to Gurgaon”, and you request to join. The host says yes, you get a group chat, and you meet at a public place. SceneHai launches in Gurugram in December 2026, and you can join the waitlist today.

10. Follow up within two days

This is the step everyone skips. When you meet someone you get along with, message them within 48 hours with a specific plan: “Same game next Sunday?” or “Want to try that dosa place on Thursday?”. A specific plan gets a yes far more often than “we should hang out sometime”.

Staying safe when meeting new people

  • Meet first at a public place: a park, a cafĂ©, a turf.
  • Tell a friend where you’re going.
  • Prefer small groups over one-on-one meetings with someone new.
  • If something feels off, leave. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

Questions people ask

Is it hard to make friends in Gurgaon? It can feel that way because people commute long hours and many are new. But that also means lots of people are looking for friends. Regular activities in small groups work best.

Where do young professionals hang out in Gurgaon? Cyber Hub, Galleria Market and the Sector 29 area are popular in the evenings. Leisure Valley Park is busy in the mornings.

Is it safe to meet people from apps in Gurugram? Meet in public places, in small groups, and tell someone where you’ll be. Choose apps that verify phone numbers and let hosts approve who joins.
